Saturday 23rd November, I head back to Cebu with the impression that I am abandoning Guiuan.
It seems that little by little, the world’s media is turning its attention away from the Philippines. Perhaps this is because the number of deaths is less “spectacular” than originally estimated.
How can you measure a disaster by the number of people who lost their lives? I do not think you should. Filipinos had been warned of the arrival of the typhoon, they were prepared. They fled from it as best they could. But they have lost everything.
It will take months or even years before they can return to any semblance of normal life … And even then, it will be only be because they are being helped back onto their feet.
