United Republic of Tanzania
I studied civil engineering at Queens University of Belfast before graduating with a Masters in Civil Engineering in July 2010. Following university I joined the oil and gas industry as a drilling engineer & supervisor. During the last five and a half years I’ve lived and worked on oil and gas drilling rigs in the Sub-Saharan desert in Algeria, London, Northern Queensland Australia and offshore in the Central and Northern North Sea, off the coast of Aberdeen, Scotland.
This will be my first move into the humanitarian sector, a personal aspiration some nine years in the making. I’m writing this introduction in the midst of packing up my life to join an emergency mission to reinstate water and sanitation facilitates for a displaced persons camp in western Tanzania along the Burundi border to ease over crowding in an existing camp.
Being my first mission I bring all the wide eyed optimism that can be expected! I’m really looking forward to getting into the field and getting to work.
I’ll be trying my best to keep a blog of my experiences for friends and family at home and to expose the efforts of MSF-ers in the field.
