I am working in the malaria unit in Moissala hospital, Chad, for the duration of the malaria season for six to seven months. I'm taking a break from my normal work in emergency medicine in Nice, France.
Before working in Nice I was a Medical Practitioner on the Island of Shapinsay, Orkney.
The Unité Paludisme (Paludisme is the French name for malaria) caters for children from 0 to 59 months of age suffering from the most severe forms of malaria that without appropriate treatment carry a very high rate of mortality.
I am one of the five doctors working at this 100 bed unit as well as full nursing, pharmaceutical and administrative staff.
