South Africa

Situated at the southernmost point of the continent, South Africa has one of Africa’s biggest economies. The country is home to over 55 million people.

South Africa is attempting to redress the social imbalances of its past: the apartheid government ended in 1994, and South Africa has been a democracy ever since.

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) first worked in South Africa in 1999. Our projects have focused on tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
