Algeria

Fieldset

The Sahara Desert covers more than 80% of Algeria, the largest country in Africa. Situated in the north of the continent, between Morocco and Tunisia, the country has been a gateway between Europe and Africa.

The country is emerging from the aftermath of a brutal internal conflict which began in 1991 and lasted for a decade. Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) first worked in Algeria in 1988. Recent projects have focused on HIV.
