Afghanistan's recent history has been marked by conflict and instability. Many Afghans have been forced to leave their homes as a result, and the economy and infrastructure of the mountainous country have suffered severely.

Map of Afghanistan

The impact on the Afghan people is far-reaching. For example, Afghanistan has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world: deaths due to complications during pregnancy or childbirth and a lack of access to appropriate care.

MSF first worked in Afghanistan in 1980. In addition to surgical emergency care and maternal health care, we offer treatments in communities where no other health care is available.
