Greetings! I am Stephen, a Kenyan a medical doctor by training. When I first started working as a doctor in 2008, I was soon frustrated by the deficiencies in the health system that forced me to look at patients as they died. I quickly adapted to the reality but my mission changed a bit. It was no longer enough to directly save patients, but to mainly work towards creating systems that effectively and efficiently save patients’ lives.
This is what I have been doing in the past 4 years of my career working in the NGO and humanitarian field in different programme management related capacities. It is probably what I will do for a long time, because I love it.
I currently hold the position of deputy medical coordinator for MSF France in Kenya. In this position, my primary role is to support the medical teams in the field with technical aspects of the project. Typical activities I am involved in include defining project strategies, visiting projects to see the practicality of the operations, putting together progress reports and similar activities.
