I am a doctor from the UK. This is my second assignment: South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
My role is as a “Flying HIV TB doctor” meaning that I’ll mainly be working with the HIV and tuberculosis services in our two project sites: Baraka and Kimbi. The region has been plagued by instability and chronic conflict for decades and the population has suffered distressingly high levels of sexual violence.
My last mission was in The Central African Republic where I worked as a general doctor in an isolated town and before that I spent over a year working on the South African Wild Coast in a government hospital. Here I spent much of my time patching up vicious stab wounds, performing caesarean sections and treating patients in the HIV and TB clinics.
My passion is Maternal Health. Pregnant woman and their unborn children are possibly the most vulnerable humans on the planet. With this in mind I hope to follow a career in Obstetrics.
