I am an ob/gyn from Boulder, Colorado with a longstanding interest in public health and improving the quality of reproductive care and services in the developing world. I have done short missions in Mexico, Honduras, Bangladesh, Kenya, Rwanda, Botswana and Haiti. This is my first assignment with MSF.
I am working at Aweil State Hospital in South Sudan. MSF took over the maternity and pediatric care at this hospital a number of years ago when it was recognized that this area has some of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. The mortality rates—while still high—have declined and a number of local health care workers have developed good medical skills.
