I’m days away from starting my journey east to the Democratic Republic of Congo. I head to Amsterdam first for a couple of days of security briefings, then fly to Rwanda. The current plan is to then drive overland from Kigali into eastern Congo, through Goma and straight up to the village of Mweso. I will call Mweso my home for 9 months!
People have been asking how I’m feeling leading up to my departure. The truth is, I can’t imagine anything beyond that as I have very little context to imagine what life will be like for the next 9 months. I can admit that I am sad to leave everyone. Saying goodbye over these past 3 months has felt like pulling off the world’s largest bandaid, very very slowly! I will miss each and every one of you very much!
