I am a general medical doctor from the UK. This will be my first mission for MSF, working in Aweil in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, South Sudan.
I will be based in the paediatric wards of Aweil Civil Hospital, providing much needed medical care for children with severe malaria, meningitis and other infectious diseases.
I will also be working in the therapeutic feeding centre, for children with severe acute malnutrition.
There has already been a spike in the number of children needing admission due to malnutrition in the early part of this year and we will be kept very busy if this trend continues.
I have previously worked as an emergency doctor in a government hospital in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa and as an expedition medic in Madagascar.
As I work primarily an adult doctor in the UK, dealing predominantly with children will be a new experience for me. I am eager to embrace and adapt to the challenges this mission will bring.
