Hayes is an emergency doctor and public health advocate from New York City in the USA.
She is currently on her first assignment with MSF, working at a hospital in a UN “protection of civilians” camp (also known as a PoC) in Bentiu, South Sudan. Here, Hayes oversees the emergency department and the inpatient therapeutic feeding center.
The Bentiu PoC hospital serves a population of over 106,000 South Sudanese people who have been displaced due to conflict. The hospital has over 140 beds, a 24-hour emergency room, inpatient adult, pediatric and maternity wards, an operating theatre, and receives patient referrals from across the region.
