MSF treatment and TB stigma

After four days MSF started treatment. They had counselled me to prepare me for the treatment, but, in fact, I have faced a lot of challenges.

When I take the drugs I feel quite lazy, I have to sleep. I am a student and I need to complete my certificate in agriculture. I have also lost my job. Friendships have been lost because most of my friends see me as somebody who is hopeless and helpless. They think I am an HIV+ patient, which is not true. I know my status. Whenever I try to explain this to them, they can’t understand, but at least I don’t have to worry about it. I am very happy that I have got the right treatment and I have to hope that I will get cured.

I am taking 17 pills a day, but I am now not having injections. They stopped after nine months, last year, in December 2010. Now I am just on oral treatment and I am coping with this. When I started the treatment there was a problem. It was the side effects of one of the drugs. There were many and one was giving me a lot of pain in my legs.
