Dear people, I want to enlighten you about the year I started suffering from TB. It was 2006. I started taking the treatment but I did not respond the way I should have. When I relapsed for the second time my parents were not happy. They were so worried, because according the tests the doctors did at the hospital, I was not HIV positive, I had TB only. My TB was just failing failing failing and that’s why it gave a lot of worry to my parents. It made them think why is our daughter not responding to the drugs?
So, there came a time when my mother and father they called one of the doctors who was our neighbour to come to the house. Because they didn’t believe what I was telling them - that the doctors tested me and I am not HIV positive. So they called the doctor to come and take a sample of my blood from home while we were seated together with him. The doctor came and took the sample of my blood and took it to the hospital where they did the tests and the result was given to my parents at home. Finally they understood that their daughter was telling the truth. When the doctor told them don’t worry about the suffering of your daughter from HIV. She is negative. This TB is complicated. What we have to do is take serious measures in treating this TB.
Before I joined MSF I was referred to Mulago Hospital for another test. That was the time my parents started thinking we have to leave this disease in the hands of God because the doctor told me that the TB drug I needed was not available in Uganda.
My parents love me and have been caring for me and are still caring for me. When I was admitted in the hospital, many relatives came to see the results of the blood. When they saw it was negative for HIV they were so happy it was only TB that was disturbing this daughter of theirs.
