I'm an emergency coordinator with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors without Borders (MSF). Since joining MSF, I've been involved in almost 50 emergency responses with over 20 years.
In January 2021, I got back from my sixth posting in Ethiopia, this time in the Tigray Region in the north of the country. Violence erupted there back in November, but we've faced real challenges in getting access to the people affected. We urgently needed to assess the needs and understand what healthcare was available to people.
On my assignment, my role was to prepare the way for medical teams to access areas of eastern and central Tigray, and to assist people affected by the crisis.
