A female patient is waiting for her consultation in Dungu Hospital. She has a severe cut on her back.
The eastern DRC context is still volatile, marked by shifting alliances between armed groups, ongoing military operations, instability, insecurity, banditry, and violence. Attacks against civilians and aid organisations are rising, making both the population and humanitarian aid workers increasingly vulnerable.
Rape, murder, kidnapping, and random acts of violence are daily occurrences for millions of people. The ability of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to provide free and lifesaving healthcare is at times limited by this instability, which continues to push people from their homes.

A week after the end of the military standoff in Abidjan, very few hospitals are open, and Abobo Sud has been handling thirty deliveries daily. MSF has been supporting Abobo Sud Hospital since the end of February. At the peak of post-election violence, MSF was treating 25-30 conflict-related wounded every day from mid-March to 11th April.

MSF is providing medical care at the Ahmed Shah Baba hospital in eastern Kabul and the Lashkargah Provincial Hospital in Helmand Province. The growing insecurity in Helmand Province is forcing people to go to extreme lengths to seek either routine or emergency care at often dysfunctional health structures.

16-year old Daniela in labour pain before her first delivery. The baby’s farther is not around, but her mother has come to assist her during the birth. They live together about three hours by public transport from the hospital. After a long an exhausting delivery she had a healthy girl. High maternal mortality rates in Chocò are almost three times as high as the Colombian average (194,7/100,000 born). This led MSF to start a project of sexual and reproductive healthcare in this poor Colombian region.

Manipur is a conflict-ridden state where numerous insurgency groups are embattled with the central Indian government or amongst themselves. The conflict dates to the creation of modern India in 1947 but has tribal and religious elements as well. As a result of the conflict, absence of law and order and economic neglect, the majority of Manipuri citizens have no or limited access to primary health services.
