Ethiopia

Fieldset

Situated in the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia’s climate varies from the temperate highlands to the hot, dry conditions in the lowlands. These regions can be prone to drought, which causes crops to fail and cattle to die, leaving people facing shortages of both water and food.

In the east of the country, Ethiopia serves as a sanctuary to refugees escaping the conflict in neighbouring South Sudan.

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) first worked in Ethiopia in 1984. Our projects have responded to both endemic and epidemic disease, gaps in healthcare provision and to the needs of the refugee population.
