San Diego Holds California Record

saturday san diego

The Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City brought out more than 1,600 visitors on Saturday—the largest amount of people in one day we’ve had so far in California, and dangerously close to our all-time record of about 1,800 in Chicago. Tell your friends to come out to Balboa Park between 9 am and 5:30 pm today, our last day in San Diego and the last day of this year’s tour, and let’s break another record.

I’m glad that my city came out in such force for this event. It was a fantastic exhibit, informative and heartbreaking, and I actually went twice (Peninah was a great guide)! First, Saturday with my sister and niece, then Sunday with my cousins. I wanted to share it with as many people as possible. Thank you for all your very inspiring, very necessary, work.

It was an amazing experience. Our tour guide not only explained what the various features of the camp, but also described the environment from the perspective of the refugee – how they came to be in the camp, their state of mind, and what might happen to them – both physically and mentally.
